Step 4: Budget

The administrator.

  • The AI provider is set. See AI providers.
  • Know your monthly amount. With Managed by Old School, your metered key has a limit from the vendor. Your budget cannot be higher than that limit.
  1. Open Administration, sub-tab General.
  2. Scroll to the panel Budget.
  3. Under Edit the budget, enter the Monthly limit as a whole amount.
  4. Enter Warn at (percent). The default is 80.
  5. Enter Stop new runs at (percent). The default is 100.
  6. Enter Period starts on day (1 to 28). The default is 1.
  7. Leave Billing rate as it is unless the vendor gave you another rate.
  8. Press Save budget.
  • The panel shows Monthly limit, Used this period, Remaining and Projected for the period.
  • When usage reaches the warn level, everyone sees a yellow banner above the chat. Tasks still start.
  • When usage reaches the stop level, the banner turns red and new tasks do not start. Tasks already running finish their current step.

Monthly limit The most the box may spend per period. With Managed by Old School, 0 means “the key’s limit is the budget”. Always set it. Yes.
Warn at (percent) When the yellow warning starts. Lower it for an earlier warning. Yes.
Stop new runs at (percent) When new tasks stop. Keep 100 unless you want a safety margin. Yes.
Period starts on day The day the budget period begins each month. Match your billing month. Yes.
Billing rate How the provider’s currency is converted to yours. Only when the vendor tells you. Yes.

With Own key, nothing is enforced: “In own-key mode the limit is informational; switch the provider to “Managed by Old School” to enforce it.” The panel shows the box’s own usage estimate.
